Like Linus’ security blanket, there’s a comforting feeling knowing that FX is there for us Marvel movie fans, and that when there’s nothing else on the 1000-plus channels we have these days to watch, The Avengers, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, or one of the Iron Man movies is probably on.

But that “Boom” sound you hear is the current tag line of the cable channel who wants in on the next batch of Marvel Cinematic Universe films. Variety reports that TNT has acquired the rights to the next five Marvel movies for TV broadcast, beginning with next spring’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

What’s cool about the deal is that TNT doesn’t even know exactly what it’s getting. After Age of Ultron, the next four Marvel movies in order are Ant-Man, Captain America 3 and then two unknowns. The fourth one should be Doctor Strange, but the final film in the deal, due in theaters in May 2017, is anyone’s guess right now.

It’s hardly unprecedented though, as FX bought the rights to five movies sight unseen back when Marvel hadn’t even proven itself yet, a much riskier proposition. This time around, TNT knows that whatever it just paid for, people are going to probably want to watch. Boom, indeed.
