Top 10 Super Hero Video Games Of All Time
By Nick Tylwalk
3. Freedom Force
(Note: I’m not talking about the NES game of the same name!)
Here’s my dark horse pick for the top five, as I’m almost positive it sold many fewer copies than any other game on this list. That doesn’t matter, though, because Freedom Force is a brilliant marriage of form and function. For the former, you have generic yet familiar super heroes who look and sound like they just leaped straight from the brain of Jack Kirby.
The latter comes from the gameplay, and if you think super heroes don’t make good fodder for tactical games, we’ll have to agree to disagree. Hell, aren’t your troops in XCOM: Enemy Unknown practically super heroes by the end of the game?
Did I mention that this game is by Irrational Games? Yes, that Irrational Games, the studio that went on to develop BioShock. Freedom Force is pure awesomeness, and you should seek out a way to play it if it passed you by.
