Top 10 Highest Grossing Super Hero Movies Of All Time
By Nick Tylwalk
3. Avengers: Age of Ultron – $411.4 million
Is bigger always better? Judging by the critical reaction and slightly slower start for Avengers: Age of Ultron compared to the first Avengers movie, not necessarily.
We’re here to focus on the positives, though, so let’s run them down. Age of Ultron had the second-biggest opening weekend of all time. It didn’t have to go over the formation of the team, so it literally dropped viewers right into the middle of the action, and it didn’t let up after that. Plus it boasted excellent performances by characters new to the franchise, including James Spader as the titular robotic villain and Paul Bettany finally getting to show his face, albeit under a ton of makeup, as the Vision.
One of our staffers described it as nerdier than its predecessor, and that’s probably a valid description. Maybe that’s why it hasn’t racked up quite as much love at the box office as expected, but let’s put this in perspective: it cracked this top 10 list after just 10 days of release. Age of Ultron is a blockbuster by any definition, one of historic scale. Hard to call it a disappointment when you look at it that way.
