Hey, What About Thor 3?

Marvel has a total of 11 release dates staked out between 2015 and 2019. We already know which movies are going to occupy four of them, and we’re pretty sure about a fifth: Doctor Strange, coming July 8, 2016. But there’s another movie that once upon a time seemed like a sure thing, yet we haven’t heard much about.

That’s significant for two reasons. One is that Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, is reportedly under contract for one more solo film. The other is that Thor: The Dark World, ended on a little bit of a cliffhanger, if you can call Loki secretly sitting on the throne of Asgard “little.”

Still, there’s been precious little out of Marvel land concerning Thor 3 as of late. As a franchise, the God of Thunder’s personal brand has clearly slipped behind Captain America — whose second solo movie captured the public’s imagination and dollars to a much greater extent than Thor: The Dark World — and the Guardians of the Galaxy, whose second outing has already been announced and dated.

So what’s the deal here? It could be that Marvel just hasn’t come across a script it likes. There’s an above-average chance the studio knows it needs to get this one right. It’s also possible that something happens in Avengers: Age of Ultron that affects Thor’s status quo, or that the powers that be are waiting to see how fans react to the female Thor that will be introduced in comics this fall.

Whatever the case might be, it’s curious how little noise there’s been. How about it Marvel? Anything to announce on Thor 3? If nothing else, there are quite a few Tom Hiddleston fans out there waiting to find out about their next dose of Loki.
