The Italian artist attracted media attention from corners where comic books typically go unnoticed thanks to his variant cover for the upcoming Spider-Woman #1. In case you forgot, it’s this one:
Whether you agree with the idea that the cover crossed the lines of good taste or not, there’s no denying that it generated a firestorm of negative publicity. Now Digital Spy is reporting that Marvel has canceled Manara’s scheduled variants for Avengers & X-Men: AXIS #1 and Thor #2, apparently unwilling to have even the hint of controversy detract from the sales of what should be two very popular comics.
Interestingly, the Spider-Woman cover is still on track to go ahead as planned on November 19. There’s also a bit of irony in the idea of having Manara on Thor, but that’s a topic for another post.
