Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Ongoing Coming In 2015
By Nick Tylwalk
On the list of fan favorite characters who have never had their own monthly series — and also that non-comics fans probably wouldn’t know — Squirrel Girl has to rank right near the top. The mutant hero with the mighty power of squirrels and a list of victories over the likes of Doctor Doom, Thanos (possibly) and MODOK has never had a chance to star in here own series, but that’s going to change in 2015.

Entertainment Weekly got the exclusive first look at the cover (seen below) of Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #1, coming next year from writer Ryan North and artist Erica Henderson. The series will focus on Doreen Green as she attends college and fends off threats of all kinds as Squirrel Girl, no doubt with healthy dashes of lighthearted humor along the way.
For those who haven’t been exposed to her yet, Squirrel Girl is a mutant with powers related to squirrels, including heightened reflexes, sharp teeth and claws, the ability to leap great distances, and a prehensile tail. She can also speak to and persuade squirrels to help her, which writers have used to humorous effect on numerous occasions.
A former member of the Great Lakes Avengers and nanny to the daughter of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, she’s been a popular guest star wherever she’s appeared, and this series has the rare potential to attract both diehard Marvel fans and curious new readers alike. Can Squirrel Girl keep the “Unbeatable” part of her title alive on a monthly basis? We’ll find out next year.
