What’s the comic book equivalent of “If you build it, they will come?” Maybe something like, “If you show comic book companies you like a character enough, they’ll do a series for him or her?”

More from Conventions And Shows

Clearly, one of the breakout characters from the early build-up to Spider-Verse has been the Gwen Stacy Spider-Woman featured in Edge of Spider-Verse #2. And in its final panel of New York Comic Con 2014, Marvel went out with a bang, announcing that she will get her own ongoing series entitled Spider-Gwen. Writer Jason Latour and artist Robbi Rodriguez — the same team that gave the world the character’s debut — will do the honors, beginning next February.

And that’s not all. Silk, the code name for Cindy Moon, the other person to be bitten by the radioactive spider that famously gave Peter Parker his heroic start, is also getting her own book. Writer Robbie Thompson and artist Stacey Lee get the call on that one, with Silk #1 also hitting in February 2015.

Along with the upcoming Jessica Drew Spider-Woman and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl series, Marvel fans looking for books with female protagonists are going to have more choices than ever before. And like we said up top, both Spider-Gwen and Silk are great examples of how if the comic-buying public reacts to characters strongly enough, something is going to come down the pike to meet that demand.
