First Look: Tony Stark Unleashed In Superior Iron Man #1

If any Marvel super hero was going to succumb to a superiority complex, it would have to be Tony Stark. He’s rich, he’s brilliant, and he’s Iron Man.

Thanks to the events of AXIS, he’s also about to be totally free of his inhibitions. He’s more confident and cunning than we’ve ever seen him before, and he’s ready to literally transform San Francisco with the promise of a brand new version of Extremis. It can make people smarter, better looking and healthier, and he’s going to offer it up whether people like it or not — and not everyone will be too crazy about it, including a certain super hero who set up shop in San Fran first.

“Tony Stark’s idea of Utopia isn’t everyone’s idea of perfection,” writer Tom Taylor said in an interview with Marvel.com. “…and even a blind man can see the cracks in Tony’s Brave New World.”

Yes, Tony has had his moments where he’s gone against his fellow heroes, and he often thinks he knows better than everyone else. But this Superior transformation seems like the next step, so will Iron Man fans even want to cheer him on?

“This is a Tony we haven’t seen since before that fateful heart injury that turned him into one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes,” Senior Editor Mark Paniccia said in a statement. “The smug, over-confident quintessential capitalist is back…and readers are going to get a real kick out of it. Even the most loyal Iron Man fans will find this a guilty pleasure.”

We’ll see about that when Taylor and artist Yildiray Cinar unleash Superior Iron Man #1 on November 12. Until them, get a first look right here, with variant cover peeks at work by Cinar, Alex Ross and Skottie Young.
