Gotham: Is Oswald Cobblepot Really The Joker?!

Apparently there is a crazy fan rumor going around on the internet that on the TV show Gotham Oswald Cobblepot (played by Robin Lord Taylor) will actually become The Joker instead of becoming the Penguin! It’s ridiculous if you ask me but here it is in an article from comicbook.com:

"The theory, which started on Reddit, claims essentially that the Penguin of Gotham acts and looks more like The Joker than he does most traditional depictions of Penguin. He’s neither particualrly short or heavy, they reason, and he’s much more prone to seemingly random, almost gleeful killings than The Penguin, who is generally thought to be a more tactical villain.So, he reasons, eventually this guy will become The Joker and somebody else entirely will be Penguin.Wha-huh? How are there two Oswald Cobblepots?Here’s how the Redditor answers: “Oswald Cobblepot is supposed to be dead. He knows that with such an unusual name it’s bound to get back to Fish Mooney that someone named Oswald Cobblepot is still in Gotham. So he hires a short fat kid to go around telling people his name is Oswald Cobblepot. This kid idolizes the Joker so he does everything he can to be more like him. He dresses like him, he walks like him, he carries an umbrella just like him.”Cobblepot (Taylor) would then do his business as the Red Hood, setting him up to become Joker and giving him a helpful disguist until then.Commenters also note that Cobblepot’s new suit is heavily accented in purple and green."

Everyone knows that Penguin is a gangster, he is often playing the Falcone family and Maroni family against each other in his bid to gain power and influence in Gotham. That is exactly what Cobblepot is doing in Gotham. And yes he is a ruthless and brutal man, have these theorists never seen the way he likes to torture and abuse the men in his employ? Just look at Penguin in Arkham City and Arkham Origins, he absolutely delights in causing pain, and so does Robin Lord Taylor’s Cobblepot.

I would also like to know how these theorists would explain a Joker with a very Penguin like waddle. Oswald Cobblepot, the real one, has a limp that gives him a strange walk, which as people have mentioned on Gotham, makes him look like a penguin. It has also been stated, by Donal Logue if I remember correctly, that fans should not expect Gotham to be a straight translation of comics to TV and will be Gotham’s creative team’s own interpretation. In my mind it’s a ridiculous theory but it is fascinating none the less.
