Marvel Announces Black Panther Movie Starring Chadwick Boseman
By Nick Tylwalk
Marvel went above and beyond pretty much anyone’s expectations on Tuesday during its event at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles. Not only did the company unveil an even more ambitious roadmap than was originally announced for Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it also announced solo films for super heroes we haven’t even seen on the big screen yet — one of those being Black Panther.
Everyone will get to know the King of Wakanda soon enough. Marvel has a Black Panther movie on the way on November 3, 2017, with Chadwick Boseman, who starred as Jackie Robinson in 42, playing the lead role. Boseman made a brief appearance at the event in Los Angeles, getting a chance to soak in the applause of the fans and press on hand, something Robert Downey Jr. told him he’ll have to get used to now that he’s a part of the MCU.
Boseman said he felt “blessed” to be part of the Marvel movie program and also hinted that he might not be a guy to easily choose sides in the upcoming split between Downey’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America since the Panther is “kind of his own guy.”
Black Panther will be the fifth of nine movies in Marvel’s Phase Three, and the first of three non-sequels that will also include Captain Marvel and Inhumans.
