Five Avengers We Still Need To See In Marvel Movies

With its recent slate of Phase Three movie announcements, Marvel has continued its hot streak of turning fanboy/fangirl wishes into reality. For longtime Avengers fans, especially, it’s a real treat to know that almost every vital member of the team has either been on the big screen already or is headed to theaters before the end of this decade.

More from Movies

Of course the key word there is “almost.” Setting aside the joke that nearly every Marvel super hero has been made into an Avenger at one point or another (even Deadpool temporarily made the cut, albeit under duress), there are still a few long-serving members who aren’t in the immediate movie plans.

Before we get to our top five, a few notes. Characters who are licensed to other studios aren’t included here, so even though Spider-Man and Wolverine have been prominent Avengers during the 21st Century, they aren’t on this list. Nor are any members of the Fantastic Four (all of them except Human Torch have served as Avengers) or the X-Men (otherwise Beast would definitely have made the list).

Stingray, Gilgamesh and Dr. Druid? Sorry guys, there are only five spots here.

We’ll start our list of five Avengers we need to see in movies with a hero with a high opinion of himself that’s not entirely undeserved …

5. Hercules

Considering that the default tone of most Marvel movies is action-packed but with plenty of humor thrown in, the Prince of Power would fit right in on the movie version of the Avengers. Herc would serve as some much-needed muscle if Thor is out of the picture for any length of time and serve a similar role in terms of acting generally amused with the lives of humans.

The one big obstacle would be that the MCU has taken great pains to explain that Thor and the Asgardians are not gods, but  simply denizens of another plain of existence who just happen to be a lot longer lived, much stronger and more durable and know things that we humans don’t. It’s really like taking the divine and turning it into sci-fi. Could writers do the same for the son of Zeus, or would the introduction of more mystical elements into Marvel movies (as with Doctor Strange, obviously) mean that people could just accept the fact that there were Greek demigods helping to keep Earth safe?

All I know is that Hercules was a stalwart of the team in the comics for some time, and any Avengers movie could benefit from having someone who enjoys carousing as much as fighting evil.
