Batman Forever Co-Stars Tommy Lee Jones And Jim Carrey Did Not Get Along

I’ve found quite the interesting article on IGN today, apparently Tommy Lee Jones could not stand his Batman Forever co-star Jim Carry! It’s not that surprising I guess, Mr. Jones has always struck me as a fairly serious person, even when playing in comedies like Men In Black, while I’ve always wondered how much of Jim Carry’s shenanigans in his comedies was acting and how much was really just Mr. Carry being himself.

More from Movies

"Jim Carrey has confirmed long-standing rumors of a clash with his Academy Award-winning co-star Tommy Lee Jones during filming of Batman Forever in 1995. Carrey and Jones played the villains The Riddler and Two-Face, respectively.“I cannot sanction your buffoonery,” Jones once said to Carrey during filming of Batman Forever in 1995."

As you probably know Jim Carry’s latest Dumb and Dumber movie is coming up and so when he went on the Howard Stern Show to promote that movie the subject got around to Batman Forever and Tommy Lee Jones. Carry, who alleges that Mr. Jones’ dislike for him stems from the first Dumb and Dumber opening against Jones’ movie Cobb and out performing it, goes on to say:

"“I think what happened was, I was really looking forward to working with Tommy because he’s a fantastic actor and he still is to me. I mean he’s amazing, but he was a little crusty, he was a little crusty,”“I went up to say hi and the blood drained from his face, in such a way that I realized that I had become the face of his pain or something,” Carrey said. “He got up, kind of shaking, and hugged me and said ‘I hate you. I really don’t like you.”“He did not want to work with me at that point.”"

It’s always sad to hear of two co-stars who don’t get along, the only consolations here are that a) they were not playing an on-screen couple (it’s always so awkward when leading lady and leading man can’t stand each other) and b) they did still manage to work together for the sake of the movie and it didn’t really come across on-screen how much Tommy didn’t want to work with Jim.
