Marvel, Attack On Titan Crossover Confirmed For Japan

While we’ve seen Western takes on properties that began in the East, as well as manga or anime treatments of our familiar superheroes, true crossovers between comics and manga are relatively rare. So when word comes down that one of the Big Two publishers is doing something with one of the hottest manga properties around, it gets people to sit up and pay attention.

That’s exactly what happened today, with Marvel’s C.B. Cebulski taking to Twitter to reveal that there’s going to be some kind of Marvel crossover with Attack on Titan happening in Japan before the end of the month:

Don’t ask me how it’s going to work exactly, but why the heck not? Attack on Titan is a post-apocalyptic tale centering on the remnants of humanity living inside three giant walls that protect them from oversized humanoid creatures (some of whom are also missing some of their skin) called Titans. They’ve left mankind alone for decades, but when they reappear and one eats main character Eren Yeager’s mom, it forces him and his friends into action.

Oh, and because this is a manga story, Eren can also transform into a Titan. That gives the whole story a political bent, as some see him as a force that can change the destiny of the remaining humans while others have a vested interest in keeping things the way they are and don’t want this unexpected new power to tip the scales.

Maybe the Titans travel into the past, which is our present. Or maybe Spider-Man and some of the other Marvel super heroes end up getting thrown into Eren’s world by accident. It really doesn’t matter, as it just sounds like a cool idea for a crossover. Perhaps some of our Japanese readers can tell us how it all comes together?
