During the frenzy of movie announcements that Marvel unleashed upon an eager world of fans last week, there were two solo movies announced that will feature heroes we haven’t seen yet on film. One of them, Black Panther, came with a leading man already attached in the form of Chadwick Boseman.

We’ll have plenty of time to talk about T’Challa later. For this week’s Bam Smack Pow roundtable, we want to discuss who’s going to play one of Marvel’s most powerful heroines, Captain Marvel. Carol Danvers hasn’t always had a high enough profile to warrant the honor of carrying the first Marvel Studios superhero movie with a female lead, but that’s changed over the last decade or so, and you could certainly make the argument that she’s the closest thing to Wonder Woman on the company’s current roster.

That being the case, this is one casting call that’s going to have it’s share of intrigue. With all due respect to Scarlett Johansson and the job she’s done as Black Widow (and an argument could certainly be made that she should have had her own movie first), the actress playing Danvers is going to be the standard bearer for female heroes going forward.

Who should receive that honor? We got the BSP crew members to give their opinions, and not one of them gave the same name. That just goes to show you how wide open this could be.

Let’s see who got nominated by our staffers and why:

Mandy Moore

Nominated by: Matt Conner

I know, I know, everyone wants Katee Sackhoff or some other well-known tough blonde. I get it. We love Carol Danvers and we want her to work in her own movie. But I don’t want a lot of baggage getting in the way of really appreciating this new movie character. So I’d like someone less well-known with a background in something other than action. How about Mandy Moore? I know she has a poppy reputation, but she’s a really strong actress who could pull a new demographic in.

Erin Richards

Nominated by: Aaron Speight

My choice would be Erin Richards (Barbara Kean on Gotham). I’ve never read the Captain Marvel comics, but having looked at pictures, she is a dead ringer, and we know she can act. The only problem would be that Warner Bros. may not let her join Marvel, but then again Ryan Reynolds got away with it.
