Caped Crusades Reviews Gotham Episode ‘Penguin’s Umbrella’
Warning: This article will contain spoilers
So first off I want to start by apologizing for this week’s Gotham episode review being so late, I’ve been pretty sick the last couple days and haven’t be up to writing, or doing much of anything. This week’s episode of Gotham, titled ‘Penguin’s Umbrella’ was definitely the best to date, even better than last week’s amazing episode!

‘Penguin’s Umbrella’ started with a brief recap, because it picked up from the cliff hanger at the end of the previous episode in which Oswald Cobblepot waltzed into the GCPD to announce that he was in fact still alive, forcing Renee Montoya and her partner Cryspus Allen to let Gordon go after they had arrested him for Cobblepot’s murder. Harvey Bullock was so upset he punched Gordon in the face, and refused to help Gordon deal with the fall-out and resulting fight with Gotham’s organized crime.
Meanwhile Maroni and Falcone start a serious fight over Cobblepot. Falcone want’s Cobblepot back and Maroni wants to keep him so Falcone hits him where it hurts by stopping Maroni’s weapons shipments getting into Gotham. In retaliation Cobblepot leads a strike on Falcone’s drug stores and kills some of his men. When Falcone sends Victor Zasz to the precinct to kill Gordon it’s Montoya and Allen to the rescue as all the other cops get the hell out of dodge.
Jim wisely sends Barbara out of town for her own safety and then decides to go after Falcone, Fish Mooney, and the Mayor for their conspiracy to frame Mario Pepper for the Wayne murders. Even knowing they are likely to die in the attempt, Bullock agrees to help Gordon with the arrests. The two successfully arrest Mayor James and use him to get into Falcone’s house. As they attempt to arrest Falcone he claims to be holding Barbara captive and the she will die if the cops attempt to take him in. When he proves that he does in fact have Barbara Gordon and Bullock are forced to let both Falcone and the Mayor go free. Falcone spares Gordon, Bullock and Barbara for the time being, which at the end of the episode we find out he did on the advice of Cobblepot, who is playing double agent for Falcone, passing info to him from Maroni’s camp.
My heart pretty much melted while watching this episode, because when Gordon is sure that he is going to die trying to take down Falcone and the Mayor he takes Montoya and her partner to Bruce and Alfred and promises that they will solve the Wayne murders should he die. My heart was melting because Bruce launched himself at Gordon and gave him a huge hug. Young David Mazouz continues to impress me with each new episode of Gotham, I can’t help but feel like he really is Bruce Wayne when I watch him.
I’m excited by all the new secrets and plots that develop in each episode, like Cobblepot playing both Falcone and Maroni, and it’s clear he has some further plan for Jim Gordon. I guess my biggest complaint about this episode, and actually the whole run of the show thus far, is how little we get to see of Selina Kyle, and Edward Nygma, as I really want to see more of these characters who are played so well by their actors.
