Obscure Kahina Character in ‘Batman v Superman’?
By Skip Harvey
A recent spy photo on the set of Batman v Superman revealed the names of characters on the corresponding actor’s trailers. Most were already known, but one threw a lot of us for a loop.
For those of you who don’t know (and quite a few don’t) Kahina is named after an actual African religious and military leader in the 7th century who was rumored to foresee the future. Here’s some info on the comic version of the character:
"Kahina was a seer and a member of the The Others. She was looking for fellow member Ya’Wara in the jungle to give her the Golden Seal. Before she could do so, Kahina herself was found by Black Manta, who defeated her in battle and took the Golden Seal. At her last breath, Kahina begged for Arthur Curry to come to her aid. Kahina was then killed by Manta, but as it was happening, she witnessed what was to come in the future – Black Manta would come very close to killing Aquaman. The Seal of Clarity is one of the seven Atlantean relics crafted by the first king of Atlantis. It is potentially indestructible, like all the other relics, but was not crafted as a weapon. The Seal has the ability to translate any language into one that the user can decipher."
Obscure to be sure, but I could see how that might advance the Aquaman plot. Kahina played a brief but pivotal role in the New 52 relaunch of Aquaman and Aquaman and the Others. I’m curious how this is going to shape up.
