When Batman Was Forced To Kill
One of the hardline rules for Batman is that he doesn’t kill criminals. It’s a big moral part of his character. And hey, if you kill off villains all the time, you don’t have much of a rogue’s gallery (even the Punisher doesn’t actually kill his biggest enemies that often).

But like most characters with a supposedly strong moral code, there are actually plenty of times that Batman has killed and as WhatCulture points out in its “10 Times Batman Was Forced to Kill” article, it occasionally didn’t seem forced and might be considered downright sadistic, especially in the case of Lord Death:
"Realising that he cannot be killed, which means his murderous rampages will never cease, the Caped Crusader comes up with a particularly brutal form of punishment for his enemy: imprisoning him in a rocket and shooting him up into space to circle the planet for all eternity, constantly dying of suffocation (he didn’t provide him with much, if any, oxygen) and being resurrected, in a perpetual state of living and dying horribly forever."
There’s also things like Batman setting criminals on fire and especially the early years where he did messed up stuff like hanging a dude from the Batplane. Suddenly I’m buying that argument that Batman might need to be locked up like the criminals he seems to regularly murder…
