DC’s Convergence to Retcon/Explain Batman’s History

When DC announced they were going to halt all current story arcs next April to focus on some sort of big crossover during the editorial move from New York to Burbank, fans and critics began to speculate on whether a reboot was in store. The publisher had just ‘soft  rebooted’ in 2011, creating the New 52 universe. The change was riddled with complaints and controversy, mostly due to what were considered to be large plot holes and overlooked issues with canon. Well, the powers that be look like they are attempting to do some creative explanations that bridge those gaps.

Today DC released new solicitations that outline a few of the Convergence tie-ins, including some unanswered questions about what is and isn’t part of the New 52.

"Last week, we revealed the titles and creative teams making up the first week of miniseries, which you can see here if you missed it. Well, fans and readers, it’s time to pull back the curtain just a little further as we reveal the exciting wave of two-issue miniseries that will be released in Convergence Week Two!Two also consists of ten titles. But where Week One’s titles focus on the DC Universe prior to The New 52, this week’s comics are set in the DC Universe prior to 1994’s Zero Hour. Yes, we’re talking about the days when Steel kept the streets of Metropolis safe, Azrael went from fighting Batman to temporarily replacing him, and Hal Jordan became one of the single biggest threats the DC Universe had ever faced. But what role will the heroes and villains of the acclaimed Kingdom Come graphic novel play in everything? We’ll find out when issue #1 of the below miniseries hits stores on April 15th, followed by issue #2 on April 22nd."

"BATMAN: SHADOW OF THE BATWriter: Larry HamaArtist: Philip Tan and Jason Paz, with color by Elmer SantosA year ago, Batman got trapped in Metropolis when hunting down Azrael. Now he must team with the man that replaced him, and see how differently they operate as Batmans."

Is ‘Batmans’ the proper grammar? Either way, they seem to be keen on showing readers just where the New 52 fits into Batman lore. For the full list of Week 2 minis, check out this link.
