Batman Comics Did Very Well in October
By Skip Harvey
Batman comics are and will likely continue to be DC’s best selling books. That part is obvious. We often criticize the publisher for over-saturating the market with Bat-books and exploiting the character’s popularity, but we can’t deny the results. Take October’s sales numbers, for instance. These are the top 30 comics for the month:
Title | Issue# | Sales | |
| Walking Dead | 132 | 326,334 |
| Death of Wolverine | 4 | 165,582 |
| Thor | 1 | 150,862 |
| Death of Wolverine | 3 | 141,567 |
| Avengers and X-Men Axis | 1 | 138,966 |
| Batman | 35 | 118,860 |
| Amazing Spider-Man | 7 | 116,051 |
| Amazing Spider-Man | 8 | 99,549 |
| Harley Quinn Annual | 1 | 97,312 |
| Avengers and X-Men Axis | 2 | 87,964 |
| Avengers and X-Men Axis | 3 | 84,708 |
| Justice League | 35 | 75,400 |
| Justice League | 34 | 75,264 |
| Captain America | 25 | 74,183 |
| Death of Wolverine Logan Legacy | 1 | 71,532 |
| Walking Dead | 133 | 69,561 |
| Harley Quinn | 11 | 68,557 |
| Wytches | 1 | 67,996 |
| Batgirl | 35 | 62,644 |
| Guardians of Galaxy | 20 | 61,072 |
| All New X-Men | 33 | 60,032 |
| Guardians 3000 | 1 | 58,574 |
| Uncanny X-Men | 27 | 57,908 |
| Rocket Raccoon | 4 | 57,830 |
| Detective Comics | 35 | 57,385 |
| Avengers | 36 | 56,771 |
| Saga | 24 | 55,534 |
| Batman and Robin | 35 | 54,616 |
| Batman Eternal | 26 | 54,199 |
| Deathstroke | 1 | 54,059 |
That’s seven books in the top 30, if you don’t count Justice League. No other character can boast such large share of the market. Right now it seems like whatever DC prints with a bat on the cover people will read. I certainly hope we haven’t reached a tipping point were readers are turned off by Batman’s frequent appearances.
