First Look: Find Out How It All Ends In AXIS #9

Everything that’s gone down so far in AXIS — the Red Skull broadcasting hate, heroes and villains alike getting inverted, the whole shooting match — has been building to what we can all hope is an explosive conclusion. In AXIS #9, we’ll find out who lives, who dies and who remains inverted. I mean, besides Tony Stark, whose recent new title makes it pretty clear he’s not coming back from the Jerk Side.

Manhattan is going to be the battleground as Apocalypse and the artists formerly known as the X-Men look to wipe out all of humanity. Steve Rogers has gathered an army of villains now looking to do the right thing to stop them, but will they and the few remaining heroes who didn’t fall victim to the inverted Avengers’ trap be enough to win the day?

Probably, but not without some hard choices along the way. Here’s what Marvel has to say about the final issue, written by Rick Remender and with art by Jim Cheung, Terry Dodson and Leinil Yu:

"To save everything, sacrifices will be made – and the lives of Avengers and X-Men alike will be torn asunder. An X-Man will meet their horrifying fate! An Avenger will make an appalling choice! An old foe must claim the mantle of his greatest enemy. And a new team of Uncanny Avengers will be born!"

Spoilers: I think the old foe is Sabretooth becoming Wolverine. But I’ve been wrong before …

In any case, AXIS #9 hits stores and digital on Christmas Eve, otherwise known as December 24. As an early Christmas gift, here’s a first look at some interior pages plus variant covers by Paul Renaud and Adam Hughes.
