 Recap

Struggling with reality Sharp continues to alter the present with images that are extremely reminiscent of Logan’s memories. Their escape plan seems foiled when a Paradise Facility attack helicopter intercepts them. With their helicopter lacking any sort of offensive capabilities, Meifeng drops a fire extinguisher into the rotors of the helicopter using her super speed to perfectly time the drop. The extinguisher causes the helicopter to explode and enable Sharp and company to get away. Thinking that the helicopter was being tracked, Sharp lands the chopper on a moving train in order to lead their trackers on a wild goose chase.

Assuming they where in the clear the mutants decided to set up camp and rest for the night. During the night a squad of Paradise soldiers ambushed them. Before the soldiers were able to attack, Sharp reacted with animal like reflexes and slaughtered every one of them. During his attack Sharp’s thoughts transition from his own to someone else’s. Almost as if he was being instructed how to kill the soldiers. This forces Sharp to start questioning the voice in his head. Wondering whose face he saw in the mirror and questioning what else has change about him.

"“Are you the face I saw in the mirror? That’s not my face. At least not the one I remember.”"

Going against the voice in his head, Sharp refuses to leave the other mutants behind. The team steals the S.W.A.T van from the deceased soldiers in an attempt to further distance themselves from their pursuers. Trying to ensure that they will be untraceable Neuro, a mutant with enhanced mental abilities, decides to check each mutant for tracking devices. They find that everyone has been implanted with trackers, and with surgical like precision Neuro removes all of the tracking devices, or so he thinks. Skel, a mutant with a strengthened skeletal system points out that the sixth member of their party still had her tracker.

Neuro had likely forgotten about the girl because she had been unconscious since the mutants boarded the helicopter. Neuro locates the tracker and attempts to remove it, but the girl suddenly regains consciousness. The girl has the ability to read minds and looks into the past of Neuro. She discovers that Neuro had been a serial murderer responsible for the death of many women. As the girl screams for help Neuro silences her and slits her throat. When the others arrive to question the ruckus Neuro tells them that the girls tracker was near her jugular and she moved as he attempted to remove it. Fooled by the lie, the mutants bury the dead girl.

The issue closes with Nuero telling Sharp that he has decoded some of the information from the laptop he stole from the facility. He claims that they are not the only ones being tracked and that he knows the name of at least one other person. Someone by the name of Victor Creed, better know to us as Sabretooth.

Review

I’m definitely enjoying how this series is playing out. I like what Soule and Larroca are doing with the integration of Logan’s memories into Sharp’s panels. Over all the writing flows well with the art and the plot hasn’t been too predictable. The only aspect I have been unimpressed with is the supporting characters. Other than Sharp the supporting characters are fairly uninteresting to me and seem to lack depth. Other than this they seem fairly original and not very relatable. This installment added some depth to Neuro by giving a look into his past. If this trend continues we may get back-stories for each characters as the series unfolds. Other than that I’m pretty excited to see how the incorporation of Sabretooth will impact the direction of the series.
