Report: Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Jared Leto All In For Suicide Squad
By Nick Tylwalk
If Warner Bros. and DC are going to gain any ground on Marvel in the super hero movie game, they might be able to do it with star power. And according to a casting report today by Deadline, the Suicide Squad movie is going to be full of exactly that.

In short, the report says that pretty much all of the casting rumors were correct, and that Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Jared Leto have all committed to Suicide Squad. Jai Courtney, Margot Robbie and Cara Delevingne will also feature in prominent roles.
Who’s playing who? The cast looks like this:
- Will Smith – Deadshot
- Tom Hardy – Rick Flagg
- Margot Robbie – Harley Quinn
- Jared Leto – The Joker
- Jai Courtney – Boomerang (demoted from Captain, perhaps?)
- Cara Delevingne – Enchantress
Despite my reservations about Joker appearing in this film at all, this is a pretty impressive group. In fact you could make a strong case that there’s more name recognition among this group of actors than the one we’ll see in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, with the exception of Ben Affleck.
But it’s easy to see the attraction in both directions. Smith could use a hit, though it’s a little hard to picture him as the ruthless Deadshot. Warner gets a nice mix of established stars, actors with serious chops and up-and-comers, plus a guy who already knows the genre in Hardy.
Suicide Squad will start shooting next spring in Toronto, is being scripted and directed by David Ayer, and will hit theaters on August 5, 2016.
