Old School Mega-Artist to Draw Batman After ‘Convergence’
By Skip Harvey
During the early 90’s there was an influx of young, hip artists that took over the industry. Most of them, like Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee and Marc Silvestri started out as grunts for DC and Marvel. They had bigger aspirations, though and founded creator-owned publisher Image Comics. Image saw great success initially, but poor writing, gimmicky sales tactics and ego-fueled infighting drove most of the founders of the company to split up into individual production companies, many of whom were then bought up by DC and Marvel. One of the few to survive, however, was Marc Silvestri’s Top Cow Entertainment. It was responsible for characters like Witchblade and Darkness.
Well, Marc is apparently returning to the fold as well, according to BleedingCool. Rumor has it that Silvestri will be drawing a Batman comic in 2015, after the huge crossover Convergence wraps up next summer.
This is a big get for the publisher, not just do to 80’s and 90’s nostalgia, but because he’s a fantastic artist. His work on The Dark Phoenix Saga was EPIC and pretty formative in my life.
No word yet on which book or who’s writing, but I think this is great news for Batman fans.
