David Goyer Working On Krypton For SyFy
By Nick Tylwalk
If the days before Batman are being explored on Gotham, it’s only right for the early life of Superman to get the same treatment. Thanks to David S. Goyer and SyFy, that’s going to happen.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed earlier reports from Bleeding Cool that a Krypton series is in development for SyFy. Goyer will serve as executive producer alongside Ian Goldberg, who will write the script for the pilot. Both men collaborated to come up with the story for the series.
As for exactly what the show’s focus will be, here’s how THR describes it:
"Krypton takes place years before the Superman legend we know, when the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This drama, which is in development, follows the Man of Steel’s grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known."
The comics have shown plenty of slices of life on Krypton, particularly during the Silver Age, but one guesses Goyer, Goldberg and company will have even more freedom to invent their own twists to the back story of the Man of Steel since Superman is only an infant when the planet meets its doom — unless, of course, they decide to change that too. Describing the House of El as “ostracized” certainly fits with the standard Superman origin story, which says that other Kryptonians didn’t believe his warnings that their world was facing destruction.
It also makes perfect sense for SyFy to take a chance on this, as the cable channel has been desperate to get away from its reputation for B-movie fare and back to more classic genre material. Even though Gotham isn’t quite setting the world on fire in terms of ratings, numbers even half as good for Krypton would be a huge ratings win for SyFy.
So that’s Batman and Superman pre-origin tales on TV. Time to dust off that rumored Amazon series so we can complete the Trinity, eh?
