First Look: New Adventures With Old Favorites In Star Wars #1
By Nick Tylwalk
It’s been a while since there have been Star Wars comics from Marvel, and while most fans will agree that Dark Horse did an excellent job with the license for years, once Disney acquired the franchise, a return to its comic book roots was more a question of when than if.

That time arrives on January 14, when Star Wars #1 goes on sale. Set shortly after the events of Episode IV (most notably the destruction of a space station that was definitely not a moon), writer Jason Aaron, artist John Cassaday and colorist Laura Martin kick off a brand new ongoing series that will be canon as far as filling in the blanks between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back.
That undoubtedly means we’ll see some new characters, but the focus will be on the cast that all fans already know by heart.
“Every story is about the characters, and we’ll focus on all the old favorites,”Aaron said to Marvel.com “There will be big moments for everyone, from Han to R2-D2. But a major part of the narrative will be driven by Luke Skywalker and his journey of discovery, a journey that will decide the fate of the entire galaxy.”
More Star Wars series are following soon, but Star Wars #1 is the debut of the flagship title, and Marvel is going all out to make its release an occasion. You can plan on hitting your LCS for a launch party on January 14, but first, get a sneak peek at some of the action you’ll be seeing, including R2-D2 electrifying some enemies and Leia delivering a wicked left cross!
