Huge ‘Batman v Superman’ Death Spoiler!
By Skip Harvey
Badass Digest out of Austin has broken big stories before, but to be fair, they DID fall first for the fake Batman v Superman fake shooting script that many early ‘spoilers’ came out of. Keeping that in mind, they’ve brought us a very large possible headline about a MAJOR Batman character’s death in the upcoming film.
SPOILER ALERT. Don’t keep reading if you don’t wanna know!
Jim Gordon is dead in the current timeline. That’s right, dead.
"Okay, for the curious: in this continuity James Gordon has, at some point in the past, bitten the dust. How and at whose hands I cannot tell you – all that’s noted in the script is that there’s a memorial plaque to James Gordon. This explains why the role wasn’t cast for the film, at least."
OK, that’s a pivotal support character to be left in the past, but it does make sense. Though Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy aren’t part of the current Batman movie canon, they’re setting things up to not completely discount that they COULD be. Considering how much older Gordon is than Batman in seminal and current stories like Year One, (which is what Batman Begins is based on), Gotham, and Dark Knight Returns AND how stories about older Batman like the former and Batman Beyond treat Gordon’s character, I’m not at all surprised.
This could turn out to be a refreshing take on the Bat-universe, actually. The death of Jim Gordon could very easily be a source of guilt for Bruce Wayne, or even add to his quest for justice. Plus, it opens up numerous opportunities for Barbra Gordon’s character, i.e. Batman Beyond.
Stay tuned for more as the story develops.
