Apparently not, if you’re Mark Hamill. The man most famous for playing Luke Skywalker and doing the voice of the Joker in animated productions and video games also featured as the Trickster during the early 90s version of The Flash. Now HitFix is reporting that Hamill will play Trickster again on the current series, though his character will already be in prison serving a life sentence. Flash and Joe West will apparently visit him for advice, Hannibal Lecter-style (or Grant Ward-style, if you prefer a more recent reference), on defeating a new Trickster.
There’s actually precedent for this move in more than one way. First, Amanda Pays is playing the same character she did on the 90s show, Dr. Tina McGee. On top of that, there’s a second Trickster in the comics, Axel Walker, who uses the gadgets and gimmick of the original, James Jesse, to commit crimes. Jesse eventually helps defeat Walker, which sounds like it could be where we’re headed on TV as well.
HitFix says we’ll get to see Hamill in episode 17, which means probably not until around March of next year. It should be interesting, to say the least, and could be a bit of a ratings boost given that he’s going to be in a sequel to some movie that comes out next December. Can’t remember what that is off the top of my head …
