Suicide Squad: Breaking Down The Cast
So the cast for the upcoming Suicide Squad movie has been locked in. Warner Bros. has pulled out all the stops and bought in a stellar cast. Good thing too, as a non-comic book fan will need a reason to make the trip to the cinema.
I’ve asked friends their opinions, and though none of them are familiar with the comic book series, they would all be happy to see the movie. As my colleague Nick Tylwalk has said, it’s a positive move for the DC universe. The Suicide Squad, for those who don’t know, is a band of villains employed by the government to take on deadly missions in return for shorter sentences. Now let’s take a look at who will play who:
Deadshot — Will Smith
A big name to play the expert marksman. Originally a vigilante trying to usurp Batman, he turns to crime before hiring out his services as an assassin. Smith can go dark with this character but also insert some comedy if needed.
Harley Quinn — Margot Robbie
The Joker’s psychiatrist who eventually succumbs to his charms to become his lover/sidekick. Margot has proven herself as an actress, has the right look and can even pull of Harley’s Southern accent.
Captain Boomerang — Jai Courtney
Although a dysfunctional member of the Squad, he is a master of the boomerang and can use that to his advantage. Jai is a good actor but hasn’t had his chance as a main player with a solid script. Is this his chance?
Enchantress — Cara Delevingne
Artist June Moone becomes gifted with magical powers by a sorceror but soon turns to villainy after losing a battle to Supergirl. Who knew Cara could act? This is an intriguing choice, but stay tuned for my opinion.
Rick Flag Jr — Tom Hardy
Son of former Suicide Squad member Richard Flag Sr., he is highly trained in both armed and unarmed combat. Hardy is by far my favourite actor, and has experience in this field after expertly portraying Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.
The Joker — Jared Leto
Come on! Do I really need to tell you about the mirthful menace? This is an awkward one, as many believe it will be tough to follow Heath Ledger. But Leto is an Oscar winner with a noteworthy maniacal laugh, and he has the tools to pull this off.
Stay tuned …
