A Tale Of Two Gothams

So we are all aware of Gotham, the hit TV show on Fox that is all about the corrupt city of Gotham before Bruce Wayne became Batman and Jim Gordon became commissioner. But before that, writer/filmmaker Harry Locke IV had an idea for an alternative take on a modern Gotham from a different perspective.

More from TV

"Like most fans of the DC Universe, I was awaiting the release of FOX’s new GOTHAM series with bated breath,” explains Locke. “This is partially because of a lifelong adulation of the Batman franchise, and more specifically because I spent the majority of 2013 working exhaustively on a pitch for a series of the same name and concept. A Batman show that elected not to focus on Batman, but the world that galvanizes him to do his duty. I am humbled to have the opportunity to finally publicly share the blueprint for what was to be a very different GOTHAM series."

Locke says he had a showrunner and was ready to take the idea to Warner Bros, but before they could set up a meet, news broke of the Gotham show that now exists, which basically made Locke’s vision of Gotham dead in the water. Obviously two very different projects, both just centered around the city of Gotham. Locke lamented the time he let pass, as he had spent six years tossing the idea of his vision for a Gotham show around before really trying to push it into being a real series. While we here at Caped Crusades obviously really enjoy Gotham, it’s a shame Locke’s vision never came to pass.
