Marvel Doing Remastered Versions Of Original Star Wars Trilogy OGNs
By Nick Tylwalk
We all know that the first trilogy of Star Wars movies has been remastered and generally tinkered with by George Lucas over the years (and by the way, #HanShotFirst). But comics can be remastered too, and that’s exactly what Marvel is doing with the original graphic novels (OGNs) adapting episodes IV through VI of the Star Wars saga.

Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope is obviously up first, heading our way in May 2015. The new version will come in an oversized format with a new cover by Adi Granov, part of which you can see above. The comic adaptation by writer Roy Thomas and artist Howard Chaykin actually debuted before the movie first hit screens, and while it follows the familiar plot all of us know by heart at this point, it also contains some scenes that weren’t in the movie.
As for the remastered part, that’s fallen to the capable hands of colorist Chris Sotomayor, who is working on sprucing up the pages so they look better than ever. Take a look:
I think Darth Vader himself can sum it up the best:
“When Star Wars took the world by storm in 1977, Marvel Comics was right there with exciting comic adaptations and new stories set in a galaxy far, far away,” Marvel SVP Sales & Marketing David Gabriel said in a press release. “With new Star Wars comics being published by Marvel in 2015, we’re proud to look back on this exciting remastered adaptation of the original film, with remastered adaptations ofThe Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi coming later in 2015.”
Look for A New Hope in May with the remainder of the original trilogy to follow before the next Star Wars movie is released a year from now.
