Tim Burton Wants A Happy Superhero?

facebooktwitterreddit

Tim Burton is pretty influential in both terms of Batman and superhero films in general as he pretty much revitalized the superhero film with his vision of Batman in 1989. Tim Burton is currently doing the rounds promoting his latest film, Big Eyes, but being that it is the 75th anniversary of Batman the character and the 25th anniversary of his Batman film, Burton has been asked plenty about Batman and superhero films in general.

Tim Burton recently gave his thoughts on the superhero genre as a whole:

"Marvel, they have their thing and there’s a certain formula to it all which seems to still be working. Yes, we all know that superheroes are damaged individuals. Maybe we need to see a happy superhero?"

I just think it’s odd that a man who pretty much only focuses on damaged and dark (though often in a comedic fashion) characters wants to see a “happy” superhero.

Tim Burton also briefly discussed reaction to his Batman film now & then as well as if he’d do another superhero film:

"I remember ‘Batman’ getting so much flak and criticism at the time for being too dark and now 20-30 years later, it now looks like a light-hearted romp, it’s such a strange thing to go throughI think there is [another superhero film in me], but I don’t know. You think we need more superhero movies? It keeps on going. It’s amazing how long it’s been going for and it just keeps getting stronger and stronger. Some day people will get sick of it."
