Tim Burton Was Banned From Batman By McDonald’s?
Why did Tim Burton leave the Batman franchise after Batman Returns? Well, Tim Burton thinks at least part of the blame was on McDonald’s.

"I think I upset McDonalds. [They asked] ‘What’s that black stuff coming out of the Penguin’s mouth. We can’t sell Happy Meals with that!’"
Tim Burton also did blame the studio for thinking the movie was too weird:
"I think the studio just thought it was too weird — they wanted to go with something more child- or family- friendly. In other words, they didn’t want me to do another one."
Whether or not you were a fan of Batman Returns, there is no doubt the series took a turn for the worse with Joel Schumacher taking over for Tim Burton. I don’t really think either side is in the wrong there, Warner Bros has a right to want the film that they invest so much money in to have broad appeal and Tim Burton also had a right to his vision, it’s just too bad they couldn’t find a middle ground.
