Brother Voodoo Puts The Avenging In Uncanny Avengers In New Teaser
By Nick Tylwalk
The latest Uncanny Avengers teaser features someone who isn’t a mutant, nor traditionally an Avenger either. It’s Brother Voodoo, back from the dead and in a mood to do some actual avenging, as you can see here:
For the unfamiliar, Brother Voodoo is Jericho Drumm, the most powerful voodoo practitioner on the Marvel Earth and (very briefly) a one-time replacement for Doctor Strange as Sorcerer Supreme, during which time he was killed battling the mystical entity Agamotto. Resurrected during AXIS — and still accompanied by the spirit of his brother, Daniel, who can take possession of a person’s body, allowing Brother Voodoo to control them — he should add some magical might to the Avengers Unity Squad to go along with the Scarlet Witch’s chaos talents.
A more interesting question would be why these Avengers will need Brother Voodoo’s specific set of skills. We know the first arc of the relaunched Uncanny Avengers series will have something to do with Counter-Earth, but beyond that, the new team’s refocused mission is still largely a mystery.
This is the third in a series of Uncanny Avengers teasers Marvel has released over the past week, all of which share the same tag line: “From The Ashes, a New Team of Avengers Assembles.” We saw the group come together in the final pages of AXIS #9, but we’ll have to wait until January 28 to see exactly how Rick Remender and Daniel Acuna are fitting these pieces together.
