New Ant-Man Banner Reveals Yellowjacket Looking Sort Of Like Doc Ock

A new banner released today gives us our best look yet at both the hero and villain from the upcoming Ant-Man movie.

As you can see below (and click to open a larger view), the movie costume for Ant-Man, played by Paul Rudd, looks a lot like what we’ve seen from the hero in comics over the years. The helmet and color scheme are both instantly recognizable:

Yellowjacket (played by Corey Stoll) on the other hand … that one’s a bit more of a departure. The extra limbs on that suit give off more of a Doctor Octopus vibe, or maybe even one that calls to mind Spider-Man’s “Iron Spider” suit. It’s also got a full mask and looks a lot more blatantly technological than the traditional Yellowjacket costume from Marvel Comics.

For purposes of comparison, here’s how Yellowjacket has most often appeared in print:

That’s a pretty big departure, and while I didn’t expect the comic book costume to make it to the screen intact, it’s going to take some convincing to make me think the movie outfit is supposed to do anything but help sell toys.

One thing I do like about the extra arms is that they suggest Yellowjacket will have some abilities that Ant-Man doesn’t. That’s also a bit of a departure from the source material, but one I welcome so the movie features more in its action scenes than a hero and villain who are mirror images of each other.

And will we get a trailer soon? That seems to be the feeling, as the July 17. 2015 opening of Ant-Man is coming up faster than you might think.
