Amazing Spider-Man 3 with Andrew Garfield On Its Way? (Update)
By C.T. Smith
Update: As pointed out by commenter Erwin below, the website comicbookmovie reports that Bill Beckman Casting is fraudulent and designed to scam money out of hopeful extras, so take any reports of The Amazing Spider-Man 3 being greenlighted as you will. As usual, we’ll see how this plays out.
Original Article:
With all of information garnered from the ever-famous Sony leaks and indications that the Spidey Summit is on its way, as written about in my previous article here, it seemed foretold that Andrew Garfield might not return as the Amazing Spider-Man (if Marvel had its way); and yet, a recently updated casting call by Bill Beckman Casting confirms that Amazing Spider-Man 3 is indeed still in production and looking for extras. If you look down at the list of starring actors you’ll see two of the returning stars from Amazing Spider-Man 2, Andrew Garfield, and Dane DeHann. Shooting location is listed as Atlanta, Georgia, and they’re calling for extras ages 18-65, of any ethnicity.
For some, this is unexpected news. Amazing Spider-Man 2 had a decent domestic growth of $262,030,663, and did very well in foreign markets -nevertheless, critics were not crazy about the film (and neither was I), and it neither met the expectations viewers harbored for the franchise, nor did better than its predecessor. Even Garfield acknowledged, in this interview from last year, that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 might not have been a box office smash, though it was still a project he both loved and enjoyed. With the Sinister Six movie slated for a 2016 release (and all of the notions, predictions, and rumors that Sony and Marvel are attempting to add our favorite Web-head to the MCU by way of Captain America 3) many of us didn’t expect Amazing Spider-Man 3’s production to continue.
It remains to be seen whether everything will go according to plan: Amazing Spider-Man 3 may be cancelled depending on negotiations, ASM 3 might resume its 2016 release slot alongside a cameo in 2016’s Capt. America 3, or the trilogy will go to completion and Spider-Man’s cinematic presence will remain separate from the MCU. All we know thus far is that casting is being called for, and until further notice, Andrew Garfield will get to finish his reign as Peter Parker. Garfield fans rejoice! and those who yearn for Peter Parker’s presence in the Avengers, cross your fingers.
