Edward James Olmos Joins Agent Of SHIELD In Role With “Massive Repercussions”
By Nick Tylwalk
I’m getting old. Here’s how I know: when Marvel announced today that Edward James Olmos was joining the cast of Agents of SHIELD, the first thing I thought was, “Oh, sweet! He did a really awesome job as Crockett and Tubbs’ boss on Miami Vice.” I’ve since been notified that he stopped playing Lieutenant Marty Castillo 26 years ago and he’s been in some notable stuff since then, like Battlestar Galactica.

Anyway, Olmos is a cool actor with a distinctive voice, though Marvel isn’t saying who he’ll be playing. All we’re told is that it’s a “major recurring role” that will have “massive repercussions for Director Coulson and his team.”
That could be anything, really. It seems unlikely he’d be another “Big Bad,” though the show could use another one now that Daniel Whitehall is dead (at least, I’m pretty sure he is). Olmos would certainly be great in that capacity.
I also thought that maybe he’d enter the show in the wake of Avengers: Age of Ultron, as you know the series will reflects whatever craziness goes down in that movie. But it doesn’t hit theaters until May 1, at which point there would be only a few episodes of Agents of SHIELD remaining in the season. So probably not.
Incredibly, even if Olmos is in the very first new episode after the winter break, we won’t see him for almost two more months (though we’ve got Agent Carter to keep us company until then), as Agents of SHIELD is set to return on Tuesday, March 3.
