Ant-Man Teaser Trailer Tops 29 Million Views

I guess good things do come in small packages.  According to Entertainment Weekly, the Ant-Man teaser trailer that premiered on Tuesday, January 6th has already topped 29 million views globally.  These numbers certainly bode well for the film, as there’s extreme interest for what could be seen as an obscure property outside of hardcore fans.  Current total views have already beaten out views for past Marvel Cinematic Universe films, and it has definitely surpassed the most recent of them all — Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).  People may remember that Guardians of the Galaxy was also an unknown quantity within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and comics-challenged audiences went into theaters not knowing what to expect.  Guardians of the Galaxy would later dominate the box-office and become one of the most highly acclaimed films on critics lists for 2014.

Of course, we can also play devil’s advocate and say that Ant-Man is benefiting from all the banked love that Marvel Studios has created, and social media and viral marketing have grown even more significantly throughout the years.  However, you do have to admit, the trailer did look pretty cool, and Paul Rudd is a guy that can perfectly balance the most sought after protagonist traits — underdog hero, handsome leading man, and comedic timing.  It’s still early, but I think the numbers are a really good indicator that 2015 will be another “marvel-ous” year — you know, with Avengers: Age of Ultron also around the corner (oh yeah, that little indy flick).

Ant-Man is being directed by Peyton Reed, written by Gabriel Ferrari, Andrew Barrer, and Adam McKay, and starring Paul Rudd as Scott Lang / Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Darren Cross / Yellowjacket, Bobby Cannavale as Paxton, Michael Peña as Luis, Judy Greer as Maggie, Tip “T.I.” Harris as Dave, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Wood Harris as Gale, Jordi Mollà as Castillo, and Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym / Ant-Man.

Set to release in the United States on July 17, 2015, Ant-Man will close out Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
