The Good and Bad Rumors About ‘Batman v Superman’
By Skip Harvey
A lot of rumors/spoilers have tumbled out of the blog Badass Digest when it comes to Batman v Superman. Some, like phony shooting script with Metallo, are dubious. Others have been spot on, though. Enough to give them our ear when new rumors pop up.
The latest report from the blog addresses some big speculation about the upcoming film, including the idea that it may be split into two films. What they claimed includes good news and bad news, though I’m sure they didn’t see it that way.
"I don’t think they have two movies here. And if they did have two movies the first half certainly isn’t Batman heavy enough to warrant Enter the Knight as the subtitle.A lot has been made of multiple characters and concepts being introduced in this movie, but I can tell you that the story itself is fairly streamlined. Could they have added to the script with which I’m familiar? Sure, they definitely could have. But while I could see Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice clocking in at a solid two hours and twenty minutes I’m hard-pressed to imagine how they’re getting another hour and a half out of the movie."
Believe it or not, that was the good news. Splitting that film up would have been a disaster for WB. One of the things that hobbled The Hobbit filler and unnecessary stretches it took to make 3 separate movies. Knowing Zack Snyder, had the film been split into 2 would have resulted in an hour and a half of slow-motion fight scenes.
Now, in my opinion, this is the bad news:
"And then there’s so much action in the second half as Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman battle Doomsday in Metropolis and Gotham that you’d end up with two very, very lopsided movies."
Looks like they are adamant about shoehorning Doomsday into the film. I’ve said it many times and I stick to it: Doomsday should not be villain so soon. The Superman/Doomsday fight was epic and impacting because, after 50 years, a villain came along that Superman couldn’t beat. Not without making the ultimate sacrifice. It’s too soon to tell that tale. We haven’t seen enough of this Superman to be emotionally invested if he dies fighting Doomsday. And if Doomsday is defeated without Superman’s death, then he really doesn’t seem appropriately intimidating. It would be like putting Bane in The Dark Knight.
But they never listen to me.
