Seahawks Player Claims to be Batman
By Skip Harvey
Batman and Superman have long been inspiration for professional athletes for decades. It makes sense, actually. Most of my interest in sports is about my love for superheroes. Seriously. Think about it: guys in brightly colored spandex performing super-human acts to defeat the ultimate evil? It’s like a live-action comic book!
Well, Seattle Seahawks defensive back Kam Chancellor is just the latest evoke the caped crusader to describe his abilities. Seattle played the Carolina Panthers this weekend, a team whose quarterback refers to himself as Superman. When Chancellor was asked if his abilities based on his dominant performance were more worthy of being called the Man of Steel, he had a great response.
"He can have it. They call me Batman. I’m the Dark Knight. And I can’t change in a phone booth or a closet."
Boom! Take that Cam Newton…and Superman! Being Batman is a pretty great way to describe yourself if you can back it up. Since Chancellor had an interception that he returned for a 90 yard touchdown, he seems to have earned the cape and cowl…at least for this weekend.
