Gotham: How The Crime Families Compare To The Comics

Though they don’t get as much highlight as The Joker or Ra’s Al Ghul, the major crime families of Gotham are just as big of a target for the Dark Knight as any Arkham Asylum inmate. The mob families of Carmine Falcone & Sal Maroni play a huge role in Gotham, but do they reflect their comic book counterparts fairly well?

More from TV

The Hollywood Reporter has an article detailing how the crime families of Gotham compare to their comic book versions. The TV versions of the the Falcones & The Maronis actually stick fairly close to the comics, with some obvious exceptions. As Fish Mooney is an original character created for Gotham, she isn’t in the comics. Also in the DC comic book universe, Penguin controls the Falcone family currently. As Penguin is a young mob boss on the rise, this may happen eventually.

As far as the Maronis, Sal’s father “Big Lou” is a key presence in the comics, and non-existent in the Gotham TV show. But Maroni’s big moment is essentially creating Two-Face, as he’s the one who threw acid in Harvey Dent’s face in court. We may see if that comes pass assuming Gotham lasts long enough.
