Amazing Spider-Man #12 Recap

It’s time to jump right in and see what’s happening with our Spider-Boys, Spider-Girls, and Spider-Things with the Amazing Spider-Man #12 recap!

We open the issue to Earth-13, where the gathered Spiders are veritably disheartened after the death of Cosmic Spider-Man moments before. Suggesting that perhaps the battle might have weakened Lord Solus, the Superior Spider-Man calls the Spider Squad into action. They soon find out that Solus has only grown empowered from absorbing the Enigma force, and proceeds to drive a fist through the armor and chest of Spider-Knight. From the shadowy silhouette of Solus grasping the jaws of Spider-Lizard in the next panel, we can only assume he was next to go. On the next page we see May Parker futilely try to stop Morlun from taking her brother, but with one backhand from the Inheritor laying her low, she can do nothing but watch as Morlun goes through a golden portal spun by the weaver.

In a very clean looking next page, split vertically into 4 slim panels, Spider-UK calls Peter and frantically tells him that they need back up. Spider-Man and co. arrive with not one, but three Japanese Spider-Man. Pete says that he got a strong reading on a particular Spider-Totem, and introduces everyone to Takuya Yamashiro, Spider-Man of Earth-51778.

We see a robotic fist reaching out of a portal, followed by Leopardon, the giant mech of Japanese Spider-Man, the Emissary of Hell! Solus and Leopardon (with J-Spider-Man inside) begin an epic battle, though Solus overwhelms the robot with his new-found power -ripping off one of the mech’s arms. Peter Parker calls for a retreat, much to May Parker’s chagrin, as she’s wracked with worry over her baby brother.

The comic then cuts to Silk on Earth-3145, a universe where the air seems to burn her lungs, making her sick. The Inheritor twins Brix and Bora (who have been chasing her) appear in a golden flash; Bora appears to be concerned about something though. Her concerns are realized when Brix doubles over in pain, and Bora pulls him out, stating that this Earth is one that is in a post-thermonuclear war condition. The whole planet is irradiated, but Silk wraps herself in web armor and seems determined to stay, as the radiation seems to affect her less than it did the twins.

Meanwhile, the main Spider-Man and friends port to Earth-8847, which Spider-Gwen aptly describes as Jurassic Park Avenue, where dinosaurs roam the land. Pete explains that he used random coordinates to throw off the bad guys. SpOck begins to call Pete out on his ineptness in squandering one of their best weapons (Leopardon) and Spider-Men (Takuya), but Takuya soon ports in -though not without sacrifice, as Leopardon was destroyed.
Just as May begins to call them all fakes, lamenting at her brother’s kidnapping and declaring her late father the one true Spider-Man, Peter gets a call from Jessica Drew. We find out that she has infiltrated the Inheritor’s world, and assume the guise of that universes’ version of her: one of Morlun’s housemaids. She hangs up on Pete as she comes face to face with none other than the Weaver himself.

Checking in with the Ultimate Spider-Men, we see a hilarious scene with Miles and Young Pete, driving up the side of the building in the talking Spider-Mobile, and flanked by Spider-Cowboy and the other Spiders they managed to recruit. As the TV show Ultimate Pete’s proclaimed “Web-Warriors” (a name that Miles never agreed to) teleport away, Peter checks in on 2099 and Lady-Spider, who are busy dissecting the corpse of Daemos.

Their conversation is cut short though as Jennix cuts into their feed. Jennix reveals that they have been listening in on their conversations the entire time, since the beginning, amused at what they were hearing; once 2099 began to share tactical information though, it was time to stop it. Verna suddenly appears next to Pete, with her hound versions of Aleksei, Raymond, and Joseph, and the battle begins. Everyone engages the enemy, and Betty Brant Spider-Girl appears to have her life force drained by Verna.

Back on Earth-001, Jessica talks to the Weaver, who reveals that for ages he has woven reality for the Inheritors, but that he has changed small parts of destiny’s design in rebellion; one of those changes made to bring Spider-Woman to him, so that he could give her two golden scrolls: The Prophecies. Morlun then returns, and hands Benjamin to the twins. He sees Jessica and calls her over, and soon grows suspicious that she has her hands behind her back and his hiding something; however, Jessica reveals her hands have nothing on them. We see on the next page this is because she teleported them to Peter.

The battle is still unfolding, and the Spiders turn to Peter for a decision. Silk calls Pete, demanding that they get to the Earth she’s on, but is cut off by Jennix. The Spider-Squad port unfollowed to Earth-3145, and all feel the effects of the high radiation. SpOck begins to reprimand Peter for his poor choices until they all see a giant web arrow Silk spun on a nearby building to guide them to her location. They follow the arrows until they reach Sims Tower (the tower that hid Silk on 616), where they enter the fall-out shelter built to hide Silk’s presence from the Inheritors.

No-one expected who they’d find on the other side. Not just Silk, but that Earth’s totem. None other than: Uncle Ben!?
