Jesse Eisenberg Doesn’t Care Much for Superman

Perhaps it was serendipitous casting. Maybe it was just a common case of not fully understanding Superman’s place in the comic world. In any event, the new Lex Luthor wasn’t a fan of The Man of Steel. He was asked about his background with Supes in a recent interview with Variety:

"You just wrapped playing Lex Luthor in “Batman v Superman.” Is your head still shaved?I can’t say anything about this stuff. They want all this to be a surprise.Do you think you’ll play Lex again in a “Superman” sequel?I would love to. It’s a great group and director, and the most ideal character to play. Were you a fan of “Superman” growing up?No.You weren’t?I never minded him.Did you watch the movies at all?Oh, just to understand the context of this one. But no, not as a child."

This doesn’t surprise me. As a fan of Superman myself, it’s common for me to be on the defensive about him. Some people hate him, some think he’s boring. These people often cite the fact that Superman can ‘do anything’ as a reason to dislike him. Not to go on a rant, but the most interesting stories are the ones dealing with the things he can’t do, or the complex responsibility of such great power.

But I’m not playing LEx Luthor.
