The Flash Season 1, Episode 11 Synopsis: The Sound and the Fury

Last week, we saw a pair of super villains go gunning specifically for the Flash. It ended up with the hero revealed to the public at large, and one wonders if there was a run of U-Haul vans to get away from what’s guaranteed to be ongoing craziness. Then again, Starling City hasn’t proven itself to be a great place to settle down either.

We’re getting a change of pace on this week’s episode of The Flash, which is titled “The Sound and the Fury.” The beef this time is held by one of Harrison Wells’ former pupils, someone who will be quite familiar to fans of the comics.

Check out this official synopsis from The CW:

"Dr. Wells’ (Tom Cavanagh) former protégée, Hartley Rathaway (guest star Andrew Mientus), returns to seek revenge on his mentor after being affected by the particle accelerator explosion. Now able to manipulate sound waves, the brilliant Rathaway is a dangerous threat to both Wells and The Flash (Grant Gustin). Meanwhile, Iris (Candice Patton) is thrilled when she’s hired by the Central City Picture News as their newest cub reporter. Unfortunately, her editor (guest star Tom Butler) pairs her with a veteran reporter, Mason Bridge (guest star Roger Howarth), who wants nothing to do with her. Cisco (Carlos Valdes) recalls his first day on the job at S.T.A.R. Labs when he met Hartley and Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker). Joe (Jesse L. Martin) asks Eddie (Rick Cosnett) for a favor but asks him to keep it a secret from Barry."

The Pied Piper is a comic book staple, someone who for years was a formidable foe thanks to his sonic powers. Yet he also proved a valuable ally after having a change of heart and reforming, particularly during Wally West’s time as the Flash. It’s way too soon to speculate over whether he’s bound for that path on the show, but it’s certainly possible.

It’s also good to see Iris getting on with her career, as it’s sometimes easy to forget she wants to be a journalist — it’s one of the reasons she started that blog on “The Streak,” after all. And the bit between Joe West and Eddie Thawne also sounds interesting. Their relationship as partners has taken several turns already, and we’re only halfway through Season 1.

“The Sound and the Fury” airs Tuesday at 8 pm on The CW, and while we can’t type as fast as Barry Allen, we’ll have our recap and review up as soon as humanly possible after the show. After that, we’re looking forward to another new episode of The Flash After Show, where our friends Dylan Landon, Devon Stewart, Lauren Mayhew and Jack Hind break down what just happened and what’s ahead for the (second?) Fastest Man Alive.
