J.K. Simmons open to reprising J. Jonah Jameson for Amazing Spider-Man

J.K. Simmons has recently won critical acclaim for his role in Whiplash but many Spider-Fans will always know him as the J. Jonah Jameson, the actor that played Spider-Man’s hard-ass Daily Bugle boss in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films and absolutely nailed the role. In fact, I’m sure if you asked most people who they would want to return to Amazing Spider-Man from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man the answer would be “J.K. Simmons”.

This makes it even more bizarre that JJJ or J.K. Simmons haven’t yet cropped up in Marc Webb’s Amazing Spider-Man films given the popularity of the actor’s portrayal of the character. But fear not Spider-Fans there could be light at the end of the tunnel because in a recent interview J.K. Simmons told everyone that he’d be more than up for it!

Appearing on Howard Stern’s show to promote his Oscar nominated performance for Whiplash, Simmons was cheekily asked by Stern where he’s at with the Spider-Man films. Here’s the conversation that followed

"Stern: “The great J.K. Simmons, who has been entertaining us for years, whether it be on TV or movies and of course one of the most sacred films and best films ever made Spider-Man, as well… Robin: “Well, there were three of those.”Stern: “Hey, are we doing another one or what?”Simmons: “I just heard that we… that that’s a possibility!”Stern: “Would you do it?”Simmons: “Absolutely.”"

Sony, you had better be listening to this! I don’t want to use hyperbole and suggest that recasting J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson would save the Amazing Spider-Man franchise and make the next film the highest grossing superhero film of all time but recasting J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson would definitely not hurt its chances.
