Report: TNT’s Titans Roster, Locale Revealed

Wondering exactly which characters from the long history of the Teen Titans franchise would make the cut for TNT’s The Titans? We may have an answer for you.

More from TV

Nerdist got the exclusive earlier today (or as Jessica Chobot puts it, “excluuuuuuusive’), revealing the team roster in all its glory.

Here they are:

  • Nightwing/Robin – Dick Grayson will begin the series as Robin, at a point in his career after he leaves Batman but before he becomes Nightwing. This is a pretty nice nod to comics history, and to be honest, Dick is the Titans leader in the mind of many fans. We couldn’t really have it any other way.
  • Oracle – It’s unclear whether she’ll ever be called Oracle on the show, but that’s the identity that is clearly intended by the description of Barbara Gordon’s role. On TV, she’ll be the former Batgirl now confined to a wheelchair, as well as the team’s computer whiz. Sounds like Oracle to me.
  • Hawk and Dove – Not the original duo, but likely the Hank Hall/Dawn Granger pairing. Nerdist says there will be a romantic element to their relationship, because there seems to be some unwritten rule that super hero shows on TV need to have multiple romantic subplots. I’m okay with the report that their costumes will be changed dramatically; they’re classics, but wouldn’t look good on the tube.
  • Raven – Her inclusion should please old and new Titans fans alike, and her dad Trigon can always be lurking as a very dangerous potential threat. She’ll go by Rachel Roth, which is a 21st Century addition to her character.
  • Starfire – Another iconic Titans member, it would be hard to imagine the show without the alien warrior princess. Alas, Nerdist is already anticipating a Dick-Barbara-Kory love triangle. Can we please hold off on those, just for a bit?

Two male and four female characters in all, which is a mix you don’t see much in super hero teams. No Cyborg or Beast Boy, but we’ve got our own ideas about why they aren’t on the team.

Also, the Robin section makes it very clear the pilot may be set in Boston, which is a radical departure for both the team (traditionally located on the West Coast) and DC in general, which tends toward fictional cities over real life ones more often than not. For instance, Arrow and The Flash are set in Starling City and Central City, respectively.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on this Titans lineup. Hit us with a comment below or on our Facebook page.
