Marvel Announces All-Female A-Force Comic, Though Not On The View
By Nick Tylwalk
It turns out that Marvel’s “forceful” announcement didn’t have anything to do with any of the titles that used the word “Force” before. It also didn’t happen on The View, possibly because other segments ran long. Fortunately, outlets like Mashable got the scoop so we know what it was supposed to be.
The last time the company announced something on The View, it was Thor becoming the Goddess of Thunder (never fear folks, Thor Odinson is still around). This time it’s an entire female team of Avengers. More specifically, it’s A-Force, a brand new title spinning out of Secret Wars. The book will be written by G. Willow Wilson and Marguerite Bennett and drawn by Jorge Molina.
While the presence of the Avengers ‘A’ in the A-Force logo is very clearly meant to imply that the team is like an all-female version of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, one assumes Marvel decided against just naming the series some take on Avengers to avoid the inevitable blowback from some corners.
Initial reports say the team’s roster will include She-Hulk, Dazzler, Medusa, Nico Minoru, a new character named Singularity, and other female heroes as well. It looks like A-Force is intended to be the premier team of Marvel heroes on the Battleworld after all other Avengers teams are disbanded, but we’ll have to wait for Secret Wars to be absolutely sure.
There’s certain to be much more on A-Force to come, but here’s my personal plea to Marvel: please don’t make me watch all of The View again. Thanks much.
