Some of the New Batman-ish Books Coming
By Skip Harvey
We’ve told you about The New 52 being dismantled, about the Batman-themed books being canceled or continued. In addition to all these, there are some new books hitting shelves in June that deal with the Bat-family. Here are the highlights of what’s coming this summer:
- We Are Robin, a new series by Lee Bermejo, Rob Haynes and Khary Randolph
This series seems to finally acknowledge how many Robins there have been and how many sidekicks Batman has paraded out over the years.
- Batman Beyond By Dan Jurgens and Bernard Chang
I’m not sure what this is going to shake up to be, but it looks like it will be different than anything we’ve seen before.
- Black Canary by Annie Wu and Irene Koh
This book looks like it’s following the new Batgirl model and create a ‘hip’ new direction to appeal to new audiences. I’m not sure I really like that, but it ain’t really geared toward me.
- Harley Quinn/Power Girl by Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner
No idea what’s happening here. Other than the exploitation of Harley Quinn’s popularity. I appreciate the attempt to appeal to female audiences, but seems exploitative.

- Spider-Man: Miles and Peter team-up for their first ongoing series
I have a feeling that not all of these titles will last much past the reboot. DC did need to clean up the mess of the New 52, but moving away from continuity is a terrible move. I think this will eventually backfire the same way the last reboot did.
