Amazing Spider-Man 3 deal between Marvel and Sony revealed by IMDB
By Daniel Wood
IMDB is one of the more trusted sources when it comes to movie news, although it’s far from perfect and quite often makes mistakes. Nevertheless when one Reddit user spotted an IMDB page for Amazing Spider-Man 3 it got more than a few tongues wagging and Spider-Fans excited.
The IMDB page suggests that the much debated and delayed Amazing Spider-Man 3 is back on and due for release in 2018. Not much has been revealed about the plot other than “Peter Parker/Spider-Man faces a new challenge to protect New York City.” Obviously this isn’t a relatively new piece of information for a Spider-Man film.

Alex Kurtzman is listed as the sole writer with Stan Lee and Steve Ditko also getting an automatic writing credit due to the fact they created the characters. Jeff Pinkner is also set to return as a writer for the screenplay alongside Kurtzman. None of this is massively interesting news but indeed it does get a whole lot more interesting.
However the IMDB page reveals a few interesting facts about the film. For example it cites that both Marc Webb and Dane DeHaan will be returning to their roles of Spider-Man and Green Goblin and Marc Webb is slated to return as director. Whilst Dane DeHaan and Marc Webb returning isn’t too much of a surprise. Garfield’s return to the Amazing Spider-Man franchise is somewhat of a shock given the supposed frosty relationship between himself and Sony.
Another massive surprise is that Columbia Pictures (Sony), Marvel Entertainment and Marvel Studios are listed as the producers, with Columbia Pictures as sole distributors meaning that IMDB is possibly giving away that a deal between Sony and Marvel has been made. This makes the supposed Garfield return seem even more surprising given that Marvel had stated they wanted to remove Garfield.
Here’s a screenshot of the page.
So, the big question here is – how much of this is true? Have Marvel and Sony really come to a deal? Is Garfield really returning? Is Amazing Spider-Man 3 actually going to happen?
[Edit: This was written before the big announcement … so quite clearly Amazing Spider-Man 3’s fate is now all but sealed. But still, this was an IMBD page for a while]
