Spider-Man actors and actresses at the BAFTAs – How did they do?
By Daniel Wood
Okay so releasing any news that isn’t about Spider-Man joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems pointless but I’m going to go ahead and try anyway. So, the BAFTAs happened on Sunday night and several actors and actresses that have appeared in Spider-Man films were up for an award. So how did they do?
First up we have the beautiful and talented Felicity Jones who was absolutely magnificent alongside Eddie Redmayne in ‘The Theory of Everything’ as Stephen Hawkins’ wife. However us Spider-Fans know her as Felicia Hardy, Harry Osborne’s assistant in Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the potential Black Cat of the Spider-Man cinematic universe.
Jones was up for the Leading Actress award but she had some tough competition with Julian Moore, Amy Adams, Reece Witherspoon and Rosamund Pike all in contention as well. Sadly our leather-clad female Spider-Man ally didn’t pick up the gong as Moore pipped her to the post with her performance in ‘Still Alice’.
However Felicity Jones wasn’t the only Spider-Man alumni up for an award as J. Jonah Jameson, sorry, J.K. Simmons was up for best supporting actor for his memorable role in ‘Whiplash’. Sadly for J.K. Simmons, despite beating Edward Norton, Ethan Hawke, Mark Ruffalo and Steve Carell to win the award, he will always be remembered as JJJ to me!

Next we have an actress who was in the Spider-Man films so briefly that many people would have forgotten she was in them, in fact they didn’t even get to see her scenes! I’m obviously talking about Shailene Woodley who was in contention for the ‘Best Newcomer’ award, but like her part in Amazing Spider-Man 2, she was cut out and lost to Jack O’Connell.
The only other notable Spider-Man alumni was Amazing Spider-Man’s very own Gwen Stacy as Emma Stone’s ‘Birdman’ was up for a multitude of awards but only managed to pick up the best Cinematography nod.
Congratulations to all of the Spider-Man actors and actresses!
