Arrow’s Stephen Amell Seems Like A Great Guy In Real Life
By Nick Tylwalk
It’s always tough to say for sure whether the people we idolize on TV or in movies are worthy of that adoration in their everyday lives. Social media has helped tear down some of the barriers to learning more about actors as human beings, but there’s still a bit of a shield between stars and fans — out of necessity, we freely admit.
Still, it’s becoming pretty obvious that Stephen Amell, who you know as TV’s Oliver Queen on Arrow, is a good guy in real life as well. First he started a new charity campaign, as well as a new word to describe it, and now comes a story about a gracious gesture he performed to help lift the spirits of a couple who lost their son during childbirth.
Korey and Matt Finch suffered the tragic loss of their son Damian (named after Damian Wayne, Batman’s son) while still in the womb last September. They reached out to Amell to see if he would send something to the super hero-themed memorial service for their son. Not only did he respond, he upped the ante quite a bit.
At the recent Dallas Comic Con Fan Says, Amell did a lot more for the family and their friends attending the show. The actor made sure his representatives upgraded the Finch’s tickets to VIP status and saved them front row seats at Amell’s panel.
As Korey explained on Buzzfeed:
"So, when we got to the con, we got to go up to his signing table to initially meet him. He stood up, and asked “is this her?” When I saw him, I couldn’t help but just wrap my arms around him, and he comforted me."
Amell also wore a shirt the family had made specifically in memory of Damian, incorporating some familiar imagery:
"I bawled. When he dedicated the panel to my husband and I, I straight up ugly cried. He wore the shirt THE WHOLE PANEL.Then, just when I thought he could not be any more kind to me, after his panel, he jumped off the stage and wrapped me in a hug again- and took a picture with my whole group!"
Class act doesn’t even begin to describe this, right? Not every on-screen super hero is going to be one in the real world as well, but for the Arrow, at least, that appears to be the case.
